About Camp Tevya

Camp Tevya, located on the shores of Lake Potanipo in Brookline, NH, has been the special summer home to generations of campers. Founded in 1939, Camp Tevya is a co-ed camp located on 650 acres and home to over 450 campers each summer. Camp Tevya offers a full season program and two half-season programs. In starting Camp Tevya, Eli and Bessie Cohen sought to create a place for children to develop themselves, experience the joy of their Jewish heritage, and have fun. The goal is to help children build character, self-confidence, and spirit in a safe and fun environment.

Eli and Bessie Cohen sought to create a place for children to develop themselves, experience the joy of their Jewish heritage, and have fun.

Camp Tevya’s cultural environment is driven by the Cohen Camp ’s dedication to providing campers with a meaningful Jewish experience. We recite blessings in the morning and before and after every meal. We celebrate Shabbat as a community with unique activities to set the day apart. Campers are also exposed to Israeli dance, music and stimulating cultural sessions that explore Jewish themes.

Tevya’s people – the dedicated staff and the spirited campers – drive the character and culture that makes the Camp Tevya community so special. Through a dynamic program of daily activities and exciting evening programs, campouts, and special events and trips campers learn new skills and develop independence.

To further enrich the Jewish experience and help children to transition to become leaders, the Cohen Camps offers the Dor L’Dor Leadership Program, a counselor-in-training program for returning campers entering the 11th grade. It encompasses learning as well as fun with a 4 ½ week trip to Israel. Leadership development continues formally in a staff member’s Junior Counselor year and throughout the summer for all counselors. Accredited by the American Camp Association, Camp Tevya is proud of its continuing staff development and camper to counselor ratio.

Camp Tevya is constantly seeking to improve the quality of the program it provides while staying faithful to its rich history and tradition. In June 2004, Camp Tevya celebrated its 65th anniversary with a reunion at camp. Generations of campers and staff returned to relive and rekindle their camping experience and launch a year-round active Tevya Alumni program. As a beloved Tevya song says, “Tevya spirit lives on and on and on. It holds us together and keeps us strong. Tevya spirit lives on and on throughout the year”—and throughout a lifetime.
