January, 2009
Hello, Camp Tevya!
I am so glad to be returning to camp for my 17th summer – although it is my first summer as Director. I have held several positions at Camp Tevya over the years, but I am beyond excited at the anticipation of being Director.
If your entire calendar year revolves around summers on Lake Potanipo like mine does, then you will undoubtedly understand my feeling that the moment January 1st arrives, I am no longer looking ahead to “next summer,” but I am looking ahead to “this summer.”
The natural sentiment at this point in time would be that I can’t wait to get started, but in actuality, we got started months ago preparing for the summer, and things are shaping up nicely. I have been working with Pearl Lourie, the Executive Director of the Cohen Camps, to make sure that Tevya continues to be the wonderful place that you know or, for some of you who will be new to Tevya this summer, the place that is about to become your summer home.
We are continuing to build a fantastic staff and are very happy to be welcoming back several of our Senior Staff from previous summers. Dan Wulf, Wendy Scheman, and Elisa Reeves are returning as Head Counselors, and they will be joined by Ellen Ades, an avid Tevya alumnus, who will round out our Head Counselor staff. Mindee Meltzer brings a wealth of Jewish Community programming experience to us as our new Program Director. I will be working very closely with Mindee as we plan our summer calendar. I can promise you that there will be lots of fun activities and special events in store for the summer of 2009!
I am looking forward to bringing my wife Danyael, our 9 month old daughter Noa, and a new baby due in April to camp with me. Danyael and I met at Camp Tevya, and we are both looking forward to introducing our children to everything that we know to be so special about camp.
I am really looking forward to meeting all of you and hope that you will get in touch with me if you have any questions, or if you just want to say hello.
See you “THIS summer!”
